From the Juba airport we were taken by our host and the taxi driver he uses (in a Land cruiser taxi) to a small hotel on the banks of the Nile River.
We were impressed by the simplicity and cleanliness of the place. We were then told that it is owned and staffed mainly by Kenyans. In fact most such establishments are owned by foreigners.
What did shock us was the price ($100 pp pn). We then were told it was a special rate because of the good relationship with our host.
We ate a late lunch, rested and then went out for a soda at the terrace overlooking the Nile. It was beautiful except for the oppressive heat that seemed to get worse after dark.
We then ate dinner after our host returned. He mentioned that he had failed to register us at the airport after several attempts to find the man with the stamp.
He then told us he had paid our hotel rooms for us and had bought us tickets on the bus to Rumbek the next morning. Our first financial miracle... I say, "miracle" because had he not done that, we would not have had nearly enough money to return to Juba 7 days later...
We rested well that night and dreamed of adventures that lay ahead of us.. The first was to greet us the next morning...
